Get Moneywise is a partnership project aiming to increase confidence in money management for residents of Leicester City. The project consists of 5 agencies brought together by the Reaching People consortium and are funded by The Big Lottery.
The project started in March 2013 and was set up to support new social housing tenants and tenants under 25 years of age. We have now expanded to support all social housing tenants as well as residents of hostels and a small number of tenants in privately rented accommodation.
As well as working on a one to one basis with individual tenants, we are able to offer group courses and one off workshops to help tenants build their confidence in managing money.
Get Moneywise has built new partnerships with other agencies to be able to deliver financial capability in innovative new ways. This has included a chance to get “Financially Fit” with Triple Skillz, a sports coaching trio, and a chance to combine digital skills with financial capability through Cooke e-learning.
Early in 2015 we held a Blue Monday event to highlight financial exclusion and the difficulties a large proportion of Leicester are facing. This event was attended by the Deputy City Major of Leicester, Rory Palmer, and Policy Advisor and Chaplain to the Bishop of Leicester, Adrian Jones. Both Leicester City Council and the Diocese of Leicester are heavily involved in the city’s Fair Finance campaign.
Tenants can refer themselves to the project by calling us or dropping in to see us. We also accept referrals from third parties, such as housing providers or other local agencies. If you would like more information on how we can support your tenants or if you are interested in us running a group workshop then please contact us.
